Curriculum: Academy Academics
The curriculum of the Military Leadership Academy is designed to promote critical thinking, analysis, decision-making skills and allow the cadets to engage in discussions rather than lectures. The Academy curriculum is modeled off a college classroom experience where our cadets will engage in thought-provoking, challenging topics, and issues that include:
Leadership Foundations: Cadets are taught leadership styles, qualities, and characteristics based on curriculum taught at the U.S. Army Ranger School. These classes, coupled with hands-on activities, provide a strong basis of leadership for the cadet to build on as he/she succeeds in life.
American Civics: Civic duty and responsibility has a minor role in public schools, if at all. Lessons on American history, flag etiquette, and community service promote and generate respect for our country and establish national identity.
U.S. Military History: A favorite subject among cadets, classes on U.S. military history provide case studies for cadets to discuss. There are no right or wrong answers as the cadets discuss events such as the fall of Baghdad and the decisions American leaders faced during these trials.
Leadership Simulations: Cadets are given leadership scenario simulations based on those practiced by the U.S. military. Scenarios include small unit leadership similar to that of the world’s political stage. Academy staff direct the cadets to apply core values to leadership decisions and encourage students to apply these steps to their own life situations.
The goal of the Academy curriculum is to provide our cadets with a greater understanding and knowledge into the fields of leadership, the American government, American history and the U.S. military.
