2008 Academy Sessions
The 2008 summer Military Leadership Academy sessions will be held at Eastover Retreat Center, located across the James River from Williamsburg, VA. Eastover Retreat Center is a central location that provides access to Virginia’s numerous military bases and historical sites.
Eastover is located on 283 acres of woods and boasts many terrain features for land navigation as well as a half-mile of beach on the James River. Cadets will be housed in Eastover’s “barracks”, an air-conditioned building with four separate wings divided male and female, each with a counselor’s room and full bath facilities. Cadets are supervised at all times while in the barracks by a staff member of the same gender.
Cadets dine at the camp dining facility at Eastover for the majority of the time. However, when touring military bases, cadets dine at the same dining facilities that feed our defenders of freedom. Students can also expect to have at least one MRE (Meals-Ready-to-Eat) during their stay. Junk food and caffeine products will not be consumed during the sessions.
The first few days of camp will be very similar to boot camp. Upon arrival, students will be issued Academy uniforms and military gear including rucksacks, sleeping bags, flashlights, etc. Cadets will be able to keep their uniforms, class shirts, and canteens upon graduation from the Academy. Cadets will be held accountable for maintaining their appearance, discipline, and bearing.
Each session focuses on building leadership skills and character through rigorous challenges that supplement the Academy Core Values. Cadets will be motivated every morning and throughout the day with physical exercises and activities. Academy lessons are taught in a non-stressful environment that encourages discussion on issues such as military history, leadership, and civics. Cadets are given workbooks that encompass all lessons that are taught during the session, and are theirs to keep upon graduation.
Freedom Alliance works with military bases every year to allow our students to interact with the men and women who are serving our country. Cadets will learn about the customs, courtesies, and traditions of the U.S. military, and have a chance to experience those lessons first-hand.
Cadets will also experience and celebrate America’s achievements by visiting sites like Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Washington, D.C.
