2009 Academy Sessions
Army National Guard Maneuver Training Center, Fort Pickett
Located in Blackstone, Virginia.
Class 29
4 July - 17 July
Class 30
25 July - 7 August
Located 65 miles southwest of Richmond, Virginia, Fort Pickett will be the primary location for Cadet training during Class 29 and Class 30. Originally tasked with training troops that would hit the beach at Normandy, Fort Pickett is now home to the Virginia National Guard and provides many resources to train up Guardsmen ready to deploy. The base is also in close proximity to other military installations including Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis, and Marine Corps Base Quantico.
Camp Details
The camp operates in a simulated "basic training" or "boot camp" environment. Upon arrival, students will be issued Academy uniforms and military gear including rucksacks, sleeping bags, flashlights, etc. Cadets will be able to keep their uniforms, class shirts, and canteens upon graduation from the Academy. Cadets will be held accountable for maintaining their appearance, discipline, and bearing at all times.
Each session focuses on building leadership skills and character through rigorous challenges that supplement the Academy Core Values. Cadets will be motivated every morning and throughout the day with physical exercises and activities. Academy lessons are taught in a non-stressful environment that encourages discussion on issues such as military history, leadership, and civics. Cadets are given workbooks that encompass all lessons that are taught during the session, and are theirs to keep upon graduation.
Cadets dine at the base dining facility or the camp dining facility at Eastover for the majority of the time. However, when touring other military bases, cadets dine at the same dining facilities that feed our defenders of freedom. Students can also expect to have at least one MRE (Meals-Ready-to-Eat) during their stay. Junk food and caffeine products will not be consumed during the sessions.
Freedom Alliance works with military bases every year to allow our students to interact with the men and women who are serving our country. Cadets will learn about the customs, courtesies, and traditions of the U.S. military, and have a chance to experience those lessons first-hand.
Cadets will also experience and celebrate America’s achievements by visiting sites like Jamestown, Yorktown, and Washington, D.C.
